We have been working together since 2015 to produce films in collaboration with Amahuaca people on the Inuya River that focus on memory, cultural change, bilingual education, socio-political organization, serious health issues and people’s struggle to gain the respect and support of the peruvian government. Our methods emphasize the importance of empowering people to tell their own stories through the medium of film.
Fernando Valdivia
Director & Screenwriter
Fernando was trained at the National University of San Marcos and the EICTV of Cuba in social communications documentary filmmaking. He has produced for NationalGeographic, ChannelFour, TheField Museum, Deutsche Welle, WWF, TheNatureConservancy, LligadelsDretsdelsPobles, UNDP, IBC, COICA, SIGNIS, among others. His best known works are “AMAHUACA SIEMPRE”, “ISKOBAKEBO, A DIFICIL REENCUENTRO”, “LA TRAVESÍA DE CHUMPI” and “BUSCANDO EL AZUL” (Grand Prize ANACONDA 2004). In 2014 he received the Pachamama-Cinema Trophy of Fronteira in Rio Branco, Brazil, in recognition of his career. In 2017 he received the Luis Espinal trophy as a tribute in the Bolivia Lab, that same year he was honored in the 7th. CINESUYU in Cusco. In 2018 he received recognition from the Congress of the Republic and a tribute at the V Latin American Community Film Meeting CHASKI- CHACCHANDO SUEÑOS. He was part of FILMING IN PERU WITH WERNER HERZOG 2018 as an advisor and producer. He directs TeleAndes Producciones and the Amazon Film School.

Christopher Hewlett

Christopher Hewlett is Co-Director of the Center for Research and Collaboration in the Indigenous Americas (CRACIA) based in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Maryland and Research Associate at the American Museum of Natural History. His research and collaborative projects with Amahuaca people draw direct connections between their contemporary lives and materials collected during anthropological and investigative expeditions to the Peruvian Amazon in 1960s. Christopher is also a founding member and board director of Share-Amazonica (Share-Amazonica.org), which is a platform working to expand intercultural collaboration through translation of anthropological works from English to Spanish, publication of collaborative works with indigenous peoples and production of community filmmaking in Peru.
Christopher Hewlett es Co-Director del Centro de Investigación y Colaboración en las Américas Indígenas (CRACIA) con sede en el Departamento de Antropología de la Universidad de Maryland y Investigador Asociado en el Museo Americano de Historia Natural. Sus proyectos de investigación y colaboración con la gente de Amahuaca establecen conexiones directas entre sus vidas contemporáneas y los materiales recopilados durante las expediciones antropológicas e investigativas a la Amazonía peruana en los años sesenta. Christopher también es miembro fundador y director de la junta de Share-Amazonica (Share-Amazonica.org), que es una plataforma que trabaja para ampliar la colaboración intercultural mediante la traducción de obras antropológicas del inglés al español, la publicación de trabajos de colaboración con los pueblos indígenas y la producción de El cine comunitario en Peru.
Alex Giraldo

Born in Quillabamba, Cusco, Alex has 25 years of experience as an assistant director, including being right arm of the great Jorge Vignati. He has specialized in filming in extreme situations and has worked on many films with international teams, including Germany, USA, France, Spain, etc. In 2018 he was part of the workshop team FILMING WITH WERNER HERZOG IN PERU as a field producer.
Natural de Quillabamba, Cusco, realizador con 25 años de experiencia como asistente de dirección, brazo derecho del gran Jorge Vignati, se ha especializado en rodajes extremos trabajando en múltiples películas con equipos de Alemania, USA, Francia, España, etc. Formó parte del equipo del taller FILMING WITH WERNER HERZOG IN PERÚ 2018 como productor de campo.
